Complex fibroid removal for a woman

(DN) - On October 21, information from Au Co Hospital said that doctors had surgically removed about 20 large and small fibroids from a 47-year-old woman. This was the second time the patient had to undergo surgery to remove uterine fibroids.

Accordingly, Ms. PNNA, residing in Tam Hiep ward, Dong Nai province, went to Au Co Hospital for examination due to prolonged vaginal bleeding for three consecutive months. Ms. A. bought medication to treat herself but it did not help, and her condition worsened.

Specialist Doctor Nguyen Dinh Duong, Department of Obstetrics and Infertility, Au Co Hospital said: Ultrasound images showed that the tumors were of different sizes and located everywhere in the uterus, causing deformation of the patient's uterus. Therefore, doctors advised the patient to have surgery to treat the tumors.

“Normally, for patients at this age, the doctor will perform a hysterectomy to quickly avoid recurrence, but the patient wants to keep the uterus in the hope of having more children. Therefore, we have to separate each tumor,” Dr. Duong shared.

The doctors had to try to remove all the fibroids and minimize damage to the patient's uterus. The surgery lasted about 2 hours. After the surgery, the patient recovered well and did not need a blood transfusion. Currently, the patient's health is stable and will be discharged in the next few days.

It is known that Ms. A. had laparoscopic surgery to remove uterine fibroids once many years ago.
