General Secretary To Lam's state visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Azerbaijan has attracted special attention from regional and international media.

The qazinform.com website of the Kazinform news agency (Kazakhstan) reported that on May 5, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed General Secretary To Lam to the capital Astana, starting a 3-day state visit to this Central Asian country.

Kazakhstan media quoted President Tokayev as believing that General Secretary To Lam's historic visit will create more momentum to expand cooperation between Kazakhstan and Vietnam, which has great potential but has not been fully exploited.

On the same day, astanatimes.com published an overview article analyzing the prospects for cooperation between Hanoi and Astana, while highlighting the factors that connect Vietnam and Kazakhstan. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992, the two countries have built a solid legal foundation, signing dozens of inter-state, inter-governmental and inter-sectoral agreements.

Vietnam has become one of Kazakhstan's leading partners in Southeast Asia, with bilateral trade turnover reaching about 800 million USD in 2024.

The article on astanatimes.com specifically noted that in 2023, the two countries signed a visa exemption agreement allowing citizens of both sides to travel without a visa for up to 30 days, effective from May 2024.

According to travelandtourworld.com (USA), this is an important milestone in the expanding bilateral relationship, which can further promote tourism activities and business exchanges between Vietnam and Kazakhstan.

Regular direct flights between the two countries remain stable after resuming in 2022 and a new route is expected to be launched in the coming months, promising to boost air traffic between Kazakhstan and Vietnam, as well as the ASEAN region.

The US website travelandtourworld.com also noted that this historic state visit marks a new chapter in bilateral relations.

This is the first visit by the head of the Communist Party of Vietnam to Kazakhstan, creating the premise for the highest-level diplomatic exchange since the two countries established official relations in 1992, thereby enhancing political trust and promoting comprehensive cooperation in many fields.

According to travelandtourworld.com, Vietnam-Kazakhstan relations have made significant progress. General Secretary To Lam’s visit will further promote cooperation, in line with the common goals and development priorities of both countries, as well as mark an important step towards a deeper and more strategic partnership between Vietnam and Kazakhstan, laying a solid foundation for long-term cooperation, strengthening relations in both traditional and emerging fields.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani media affirmed that the country is aiming for a breakthrough in relations with Vietnam.

Azerbaijan's caliber.az and report.az websites said Baku expects a significant breakthrough in relations with Vietnam during the state visit of General Secretary To Lam to Azerbaijan.

According to caliber.az, Azerbaijan's strategic location (along the Central Corridor) provides Vietnam with a viable route connecting to European markets, while Vietnam's dynamic economy offers opportunities for Azerbaijani exports./.
