On January 17, according to the Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police, the unit is temporarily detaining Phan Nguyen Tan Khai (31 years old), Nguyen Thanh Do (32 years old) - both residing in Binh Thanh District) and Ngo Thi Thien Trang (29 years old, Khai's wife) to investigate the acts of Loan sharking in civil transactions and Extortion of property.

Previously, Khai knew and had a joint venture with NTA. Due to losses, from July 2022 until now, TA has borrowed money from Khai many times by paying interest at an interest rate of 12 - 21% / month. The total interest that TA paid to Khai is more than 1.2 billion VND.

After a while, Khai transferred the 320 million VND that Mr. A owed him to Do. At this time, Do became Mr. A's creditor and charged an interest rate of 16%/day. After a while, NTA lost the ability to pay the debt, so they cut off contact and avoided Khai and Do. This group went to find and assault Mr. A, forcing him to continue paying the debt.

Fearing being assaulted, NTA said he owned a billiards club on Dien Bien Phu Street (Ward 1, District 3) and would transfer the money he owed to Khai as shares in the billiards club. Khai agreed and transferred another 100 million VND to Mr. A. to run the business together, sharing 25 million VND each month.

After 3 months of profit sharing, TA lost the ability to pay. Khai went to the billiards club to do the procedure to transfer the name of the club to collect the debt and discovered that the billiards club belonged to D.TPN (TA's lover), not TA.

Then, Khai, Trang and Do came to curse, threaten and force N. to transfer the name of the billiards club or sign a loan paper to pay off the debt to TA. Panicked, N. agreed to sign a loan paper for 1.8 billion VND (plus interest) on TA's behalf, so Khai invited a notary office to come and make the contract.

Ms. N. paid Khai more than 1.1 billion VND but then lost the ability to pay the debt. Khai, Do, and Trang continued to bring more accomplices to the billiards club to curse, threaten, chase customers out, cut the electric wire, splash water in Ms. N.'s face to force her to pay the remaining 615 million VND and demanded that N. pay 3 million VND/day until the debt was paid off.

Frustrated, Ms. N. and Mr. A. went to the police station to report. During the investigation, Ho Chi Minh City police arrested Khai and Do. Trang. At the police station, all three admitted to the above crimes.

The total amount of money this group illegally earned from loan sharking was more than 1.2 billion VND. Ho Chi Minh City Police continue to consolidate the case file, handle the loan sharking group and extortion according to regulations.
