On the evening of August 6, within the framework of the first Ho Chi Minh City River Festival in 2023, Ho Chi Minh City organized an art program with the theme "The River Tells Stories".

The ceremony was attended by President Vo Van Thuong, leaders and former leaders of the Party and State, leaders of ministries, central and local departments and branches, and a large number of people from the city and tourists.

Speaking at the Program, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai highlighted the position of the Saigon River in the development flow of the City, "following the river to come, living on the river, developing thanks to the river, from the past to the present and the future... Rivers and canals not only contribute to creating the shape and appearance of Saigon - Gia Dinh - Ho Chi Minh City but also carry the flow of cultural diversity to converge and assimilate into the identity of Southern culture, forming the generous, liberal, open, optimistic personality, the desire to reach out to the sea of ​​the people of Ho Chi Minh City".

Mr. Phan Van Mai emphasized that the program is a greeting from Ho Chi Minh City, a peaceful, vibrant, youthful, open and constantly creative river city reaching towards the future; is a message from the heroic city with rich internal strength, courage and readiness to cooperate with friends from all over the world to find ways to develop service economy on rivers and along rivers, exploiting to the maximum the potential and advantages of river and sea resources of Ho Chi Minh City.

“The River Tells Stories” is the most prominent and largest art program of the Ho Chi Minh City River Festival with the participation of nearly 700 actors, folk artists... The program recreated the formation and development process of more than 300 years of the land and people of the City through the periods of Saigon - Gia Dinh - Cho Lon - Ho Chi Minh City in 5 chapters: Reclamation - Building the citadel - On the wharf, under the boat - Prosperous commercial port - Brilliant City by the river by combining performance techniques from theatricalization to live art, from folk art forms to contemporary, music, dance, lighting, combined with modern performance technology. The program is even more meaningful when it takes place right on the Saigon River, a real commercial port with touching stories elevated to art.

The program is expected to contribute to nurturing the love for the homeland and pride of the people of the City about the history of this land; bring inspiration and interesting discoveries and experiences to the people and tourists about the heritage values ​​and unique cultural identity of the City on the Saigon River; open up opportunities to preserve, promote inherent potential and maximize the economic, cultural and tourism values ​​of the Saigon River and the river and canal ecosystem of the City; promote communication and promote traditional craft villages, tourism symbols and the most typical cultural and entertainment destinations of the City.
