Offering incense to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed on Highway 71

HNN.VN - On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), on the morning of July 19, a delegation of the Military Region 4 Command led by Colonel Ngo Nam Cuong, Deputy Commander, offered incense to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives on Highway 71 at the Martyrs' Memorial House in Sub-region 67, Phong Dien Ward. Joining the delegation were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, member of the City Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee; Colonel Phan Thang, member of the City Party Committee, Commander of the City Military Command and relatives of the martyrs' families.

Leaders of Military Region 4, the People's Committee of the city, and the City Military Command offered incense to pay tribute to the martyrs.

Before the sacred spirits of the heroic martyrs, with profound respect, the delegation from the 4th Military Region Command, the People's Committee of Hue City, the Hue City Military Command, and the families of the martyrs respectfully laid flowers and incense and observed a moment of silence to remember and express gratitude for the immense contributions of the heroic martyrs who bravely sacrificed themselves for the independence and freedom of the nation, the happiness of the people, and the building and protection of the Fatherland.

During the war against foreign invaders, Route 71, connecting the two localities of A Luoi and Phong Dien, witnessed many fierce battles between our soldiers and people and the enemy, resulting in the sacrifice of many officers and soldiers. In particular, in October 2020, while on a rescue mission at the Rao Trang 3 Hydropower Plant, 13 military and local officials bravely sacrificed their lives, including 11 military officers and 2 local officials. To honor these heroic martyrs, in 2023, the 4th Military Region Command and the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province (now Hue City) decided to build a memorial for martyrs of Route 71 in Sub-district 67.

The sacrifice of these heroic martyrs has left a great loss and immeasurable sorrow for the nation, the army, their families, and the people.

*Earlier that same day, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Cuu Ward, in coordination with the Women's Association of the City Military Command and the Youth Union of the City Police Detention Center, organized a "Journey to the Source".

Within the framework of the program, many meaningful and practical activities took place, including offering incense and flowers in commemoration at the city's Martyrs' Cemetery; reviewing history at the Nine Tunnels historical site…

On this occasion, the units presented 22 gift packages to a number of disadvantaged families with preferential policies in An Cuu ward.
