At noon on December 6th, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training stated that the department had submitted a proposal to the City People's Committee to extend the Lunar New Year holiday for students by two days.
The Tet holiday will start from January 23, 2025 (the 24th day of the 12th lunar month) until February 2, 2025 (the 5th day of the 1st lunar month), a total of 11 days.
If this proposal is approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, students at all levels in Ho Chi Minh City will have an additional two days off for Tet compared to the decision within the 2024-2025 school year timeframe. Specifically, two days before Tet.
According to the Tet holiday schedule stipulated in the 2024-2025 school year timetable issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, students of all levels from preschool, primary to secondary and high school in Ho Chi Minh City will have their Tet holiday from January 25, 2025 (the 26th day of the 12th lunar month) to February 2, 2025 (the 5th day of the 1st lunar month).
Meanwhile, in previous years, students of all levels in Ho Chi Minh City had a Tet holiday of 14-16 days.
Therefore, many parents, students, and teachers have reported difficulties in allowing their children to visit their hometowns.
"We hope that students at all levels in Ho Chi Minh City will have a 16-day Tet holiday like last year," many parents suggested.
I can't take more time off for Tet.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online, a leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training stated: "The Department cannot propose a longer school break for students because the time available for the 2024-2025 school year is too limited."
"In previous years, students at all levels started the new school year in mid-August. This year, they only started the new school year on September 5th. Therefore, the department had to make arrangements to allow teachers sufficient time to complete paperwork and other end-of-year tasks," the leader said.
