DNVN - Domestic pork prices continued to increase sharply in all three regions on the morning of December 8, 2025, bringing the common trading price to 57,000 - 61,000 VND/kg. This increase continues the trend of the past few days, reflecting the bustling demand for food consumption as the Lunar New Year approaches.

Northern pig price

According to a survey on the morning of December 8, the Northern market maintained a clear upward trend and was the region with the highest prices in the country. Compared to the end of last week, prices in many provinces increased by 6,000 - 8,000 VND/kg, showing that food consumption demand is improving significantly in the preparation period for Tet.

Currently, the common price in the North fluctuates between 59,000 and 61,000 VND/kg. Of which, Lang Son, Dien Bien and Lai Chau still maintain the lowest price in the region at 59,000 VND/kg, while Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh are all trading around 60,000 - 61,000 VND/kg. This price is considered the highest in many weeks, creating expectations that the market will increase further when purchasing power is expected to continue to increase strongly until the end of December.

The uptrend in the North was reinforced by local authorities tightening control over inter-provincial transport to prevent infected pigs from reaching the market. In addition, the supply from small-scale farmers has not yet fully recovered from the impact of the epidemic, causing the general price level to be set at a higher level.

Pig price in Central Highlands

In the Central Highlands region, pork prices also increased sharply by 5,000 - 8,000 VND/kg compared to last week. Nghe An and Thanh Hoa are the two localities leading the increase, when prices reached 61,000 VND/kg, equivalent to high-price areas in the North. With large-scale farming, this increase has had a positive impact on the entire region.

The provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam , Gia Lai and Dak Lak maintained the price at 58,000 - 59,000 VND/kg. Although it has not exceeded 60,000 VND/kg, the current price shows a clear recovery compared to last week, creating motivation for people to restock when input costs tend to be more stable.

Cold and rainy weather has made it difficult to care for and transport pigs, reducing short-term supply in the area. In addition, local efforts to control epidemics have reduced the number of pigs eligible for sale, contributing to maintaining high prices.

Southern pig price

The Southern region this week recorded a clear upward trend when the price of live pigs increased by 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg compared to the end of last week. The current transaction price is commonly 57,000 - 60,000 VND/kg, in which Dong Nai and Tay Ninh are the two localities with the highest level in the region at 60,000 VND/kg. Pork consumption in Ho Chi Minh City and major cities is also increasing sharply as the Tet holiday season approaches.

Binh Duong, Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long and Can Tho are currently recording prices of 57,000 - 59,000 VND/kg. Although it has not yet reached the 60,000 VND/kg mark, this is considered a positive sign of recovery after a period of sharp decline from late October to mid-November.

According to traders, the increase in the price of live pigs in the South is due to the decrease in the number of pigs transported from the Central region, while slaughterhouses have increased their capacity to stock up on Tet goods. Increased inspection of transportation and handling of illegal slaughterhouses has also contributed to stabilizing the market.

Ho Chi Minh City’s November socio-economic report shows that the livestock industry is recovering strongly. Farms have proactively restocked their herds to meet the increased consumption demand during Tet.

By the end of November, Ho Chi Minh City's total pig herd reached 1.32 million, up 1.8% over the same period in 2024. This is a remarkable increase in the context of the city's buffalo and cow herds decreasing by 14.1% and 11.4%, respectively. The dairy cow herd alone decreased by 23.9%, reflecting the trend of changing the livestock structure of many households.

In contrast, the total poultry herd in Ho Chi Minh City reached 23.47 million, up 5.1%, of which chickens accounted for 87.1% and increased by 4.9%. The simultaneous growth of pigs and poultry helps the city ensure a stable supply for the domestic market during the peak period at the end of the year.

In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to focus on controlling breeding animals, animal feed and strengthening disease prevention measures to limit the risk of disease outbreaks in livestock and poultry.
