The FA-50 is a two-seat light fighter aircraft of South Korea. Its primary armament is a 20 mm machine gun, and it also carries a variety of other weapons, including AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and AGM-65 Maverick air-to-ground missiles, among others.
The aircraft is equipped with turboprop engines, reaching a maximum speed of Mach 1.5 (1,837.5 km/h), a range of 1,800 km, and a service ceiling of 14.6 km. It has an empty weight of 6.47 tons, a maximum takeoff weight of 12.3 tons, and can carry up to 4.5 tons of weapons.
According to Minister Blaszczak, these two newly acquired FA-50s will soon help strengthen the capabilities of the Polish Air Force.
This marks the sixth delivery of FA-50 fighter jets from South Korea to the Central European country, with two aircraft delivered in each batch.
Previous deliveries took place in July, August, September, and the two most recent in October, thus completing the contract between Warsaw and its partner, Korea Aerospace Industries of South Korea.
In September 2022, the Polish Ministry of Defence ordered 12 FA-50 Gap Filter fighter jets from this partner, similar to the South Korean Block 10 version.
