Following the guidelines of the 2018 General Education Program, students at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) demonstrated their scientific research capabilities through specialized literature lessons in grade 10, focusing on topics such as folk songs about love and romance, and gods in Greek mythology.
Tenth-grade students from Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) staged a presentation of their research topic in Literature.
As part of the 10th grade Vietnamese language and literature curriculum, focusing on researching and writing reports on various aspects of folklore, teachers and students from Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) held a presentation on folklore on October 23rd. Students demonstrated their ability to research, write, and present their knowledge on topics such as romantic love, Greek mythology, and the spiritual imprint of the ancient Ede people in the excerpt about Dam-san's conquest of the Sun Goddess.
During the presentation, the students from class 10A3 researched and introduced the characteristics of folk songs about love between couples that are typical of different regions.
For example, in Northern Vietnam, due to the influence of traditional customs and village norms deeply ingrained in people's minds, their expressions of love and affection are heavily influenced by reason and moral standards. Therefore, people in Northern Vietnam are somewhat constrained in their words and expressions of love. Consequently, when speaking about love, they often use imagery of betel leaves and areca nuts, plums and peaches, to express their feelings, such as, "Now the plum asks the peach / Has anyone entered the rose garden yet? / The plum asks, and the peach replies / The rose garden has a path, but no one has entered yet."
In Central Vietnam, harsh natural conditions also influence the concept and expression of love in folk songs: "You go home to hoe the land and plant betel nut trees / Let me plant betel vines beside you / We are like a pair of birds / Together we will build a warm and happy life."
Students performed the song "Tát nước đầu đình" (Drawing Water at the Village Well) while presenting a thematic report on the characteristics of folk songs about love between couples.
Meanwhile, people in the South are known for their open and generous nature, so when expressing their feelings, they are also open and passionate, as shown in folk songs: "Seeing you, so small and charming, I've secretly fallen for you for three or four months now."
Meanwhile, the group of students from class 10A1 chose to research the spiritual imprints of the ancient Ede people in the excerpt about Damsan's conquest of the Sun Goddess.
In this project, the group of students from class 10A1 demonstrated their research skills and report writing abilities by following the research topic's sequence, from introduction, research methods, theoretical basis, research results, and conclusion.
Through the research topic "Spiritual imprints of the ancient Ede people within the excerpt of Dam-san's conquest of the Sun Goddess," students have understood the Ede ethnic community's aspiration to conquer nature, reflecting the matriarchal system, and highlighting unique cultural customs stemming from the worship of deities…
As a member of the 10A3 class research group, student Nguyen Truong Khanh Ha shared: "Folklore is considered difficult to grasp, but when we had the opportunity to explore and research it in depth, we discovered many interesting and emotionally rich aspects. This also influenced students' enthusiasm for scientific research."
As one of the two teachers guiding students in their literature projects, Mr. Ngo Van Dat shared: "The topics chosen by the classes are very diverse and suitable for the content requirements of the literature project. Each reported product demonstrates unique characteristics, rich and in-depth knowledge, and ensures the progress of the research and writing process for a literary report."
According to Mr. Dat, through studying the literature topic in the 2018 General Education Program, students also develop other competencies and qualities such as teamwork, technology application, presentation skills, problem-solving, and artistic abilities in music and drama. Besides focusing on literature knowledge, the topic also guides students towards exploring regional and national cultures... From there, they express pride and love for their homeland and cultivate positive and admirable qualities.
