According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, this is considered an impossible feat. Elon Musk has done the work that would normally take about 4 years, including building the building and installing the equipment. Huang even considers it a testament to the “superhuman” power that the world’s richest billionaire is doing.
Elon Musk does something unprecedented in history
According to Tom's Hardware, the process of installing 100,000 Nvidia H200 Blackwell GPUs involved more than just mounting the GPUs; it also involved building a large building to house the processors, as well as installing power and liquid cooling systems for the graphics processors. The project required close coordination between Tesla and Nvidia engineers to ensure the supply, installation, and configuration of the equipment went smoothly.
Huang explained that a typical data center would take about four years to complete the same task, with three years spent on planning and one year on delivering and installing the equipment. He expressed admiration for the speed and scale of the project, calling the efforts of Elon Musk and his team “superhuman.” The Nvidia leader emphasized: “Elon Musk is a superhuman. What would take others four years, he did in 19 days.”
The process also marked the start of the first xAI training run on the newly built supercomputer. Huang also noted that wiring up Nvidia’s equipment is much more complex than in traditional data centers, with a large number of wires running to each node and the back of the computer. He said Musk’s integration of 100,000 H200 GPUs was an “unprecedented feat” that is unlikely to be replicated by any other company anytime soon.
