Just a few hundred meters from the Vietnam - China border, Dang family hamlet (Po Hen village, Hai Son commune, Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh ) is home to more than 20 households of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic group.
Previously, Dang family hamlet was just a remote residential area. In 2017, Mong Cai city government planned to develop this land into a tourist destination.

Since then, the roads here have become more convenient, and many border tourism activities have been organized. In particular, many mural paintings imbued with the identity of highland life have been painted on the walls of houses, making the village even more beautiful.

From just the first three model houses, the villagers saw how beautiful they were and immediately encouraged each other to paint together, beautifying the village, turning it into a mural village.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong - President of the Women's Union of Hai Son commune, the murals in Dang hamlet are all unique features of local culture, such as the picture of sim flowers, a specialty of Hai Son commune; rice fields, a picture of a Dao girl...

Through the paintings, the simple life of the small border hamlet appears clearly and vividly. From the bare walls, mottled with moss and mold… more than 20 houses in the hamlet seem to wear a new colorful coat, standing out beautifully against the green background of the mountains and forests. Since then, the lives of the villagers have changed.

Being used to farming, going to the fields every day, for Ms. Phùng Thị Quỳnh's family (Dao ethnic group), changing such a "unique" new coat for their house is something Ms. Quynh never thought of.
"At the beginning of 2018, when my house was just finished, young people in the commune started to come and paint murals. After the paintings were finished, my house was very beautiful and welcomed many guests. Every Saturday and Sunday, many groups of guests and students came to visit the village.
It's peaceful here, visitors can walk around the village, visit my house, and explore the lives of the locals," Quynh confided.

Entering the village, visitors can freely breathe in the fresh air of trees, flowers and leaves. Walking on the cool green road, full of summer flowers, seems to help visitors get rid of all their worries. Coming to Dang family village each season has different experiences. If spring is colorful with brilliant peach blossoms, then summer is the festival season of the people here with the sim flower festival, Po Hen market... Meanwhile, autumn and winter bring a peaceful feeling, a bit cold of the Northeast. |
