On December 8th, the 2024 International Food Festival, themed “Gastronomy of Unity,” officially opened at the Diplomatic Quarter (298 Kim Ma, Hanoi).
Attending the opening ceremony of the Festival were Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of General Secretary To Lam; Mrs. Vu Thi Bich Ngoc, wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Mrs. Mai Thi Hanh - wife of former President Truong Tan Sang; Mrs. Nguyen Minh Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs ; and Mrs. Pauline Tamesis, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam, along with several Ambassadors of various countries and Heads of representative offices of international organizations in Vietnam.
In her opening remarks at the Festival, Mrs. Vu Thi Bich Ngoc - wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Honorary President of the ASEAN Community Women's Group in Hanoi (AWCH) - stated that since 2014, the success of the 11 editions has created a very meaningful brand for the International Food Festival.
The festival has become an international cultural, culinary, and diplomatic exchange event with the participation of numerous embassies, foreign cultural centers, local foreign affairs departments, businesses, sponsors, and agencies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The program also provides an opportunity to introduce Vietnam and its people to friends from around the world, and helps domestic businesses promote their brands, products, and service activities to the program's participants.
After more than a decade, the International Food Festival, organized by the Department of Diplomatic Services - Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with related units, still retains its unique, fresh, and vibrant character, and is warmly welcomed and enthusiastically participated in by visitors.
Building on that spirit, this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to organize the 2024 International Food Festival to not only celebrate the richness and diversity of global cuisine but also to emphasize that food will be a "common language" - where people from different cultures find common ground and connection.
According to Ms. Vu Thi Bich Ngoc, this year's festival features the participation of 40 embassies, international organizations, local foreign affairs departments, and domestic businesses, with over 130 booths.
Each dish, through each artistic performance, not only shares the essence of culinary flavors but also spreads stories about history and the beautiful traditional values of nations around the world.
In addition, the money donated by philanthropists over the past decade of the Festival has been used for charitable activities, helping orphaned children, people with disabilities, poor women, and those in difficult circumstances across the country.
"We hope that this year's program will continue to receive your support to spread love, help more unfortunate lives, and multiply the positive values and humanitarian significance of this event," emphasized Ms. Vu Thi Bich Ngoc.
Expressing her delight at attending the 12th International Food Festival, on behalf of the United Nations in Vietnam, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam, congratulated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on successfully organizing this food festival.
"As a country with a rich and diverse culinary tradition, Vietnam is a wonderful place to host the International Food Festival. Vietnamese dishes, with their clean ingredients, pure flavors, and sophisticated preparation techniques, will be proudly showcased alongside the culinary excellence of more than 60 countries and territories. This is the pinnacle of culinary art. From the fragrant spices of Southeast Asia to the rich and savory dishes of Europe, the Food Festival offers a whole world of culinary experiences," said Pauline Tamesis.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam stated that, in addition to its culinary significance, the festival is also an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and share thoughts on growing global challenges such as the transformation of the agro-food system and future food security; affirming that the United Nations in Vietnam will continue to work alongside the Vietnamese Government and relevant stakeholders on the issue of transforming the agro-food system.
At the opening ceremony, the wives and leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations in Vietnam presented commemorative plaques and letters of thanks to representatives of sponsors and exhibitors, and toured the exhibition booths.
