On the afternoon of November 25th, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Borje Ekholm, Chairman and CEO of Ericsson Group (Sweden), who is on a visit and working trip to Vietnam.

During the meeting, Ericsson leaders introduced the company's capabilities; discussed ways to support Vietnam in accelerating its national digital transformation; and offered some recommendations on digital technology .
Welcoming the Chairman of Ericsson to Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his pleasure at the positive and promising development of Vietnam-Sweden relations, especially in political and diplomatic matters, development aid (currently around nearly 3 billion USD), and bilateral trade exceeding 1 billion USD annually.
The Prime Minister stated that Vietnam wishes to elevate its relationship with Sweden to a higher, more substantive, and more effective level. The agencies of both countries are actively coordinating to maximize the potential of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and promote the ratification of the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). He expressed confidence that, through this visit to Vietnam, the Chairman of Ericsson will gain a deep and comprehensive understanding, which will serve as a basis for the Group's future investment and business decisions.

The Prime Minister welcomed and highly appreciated the Group's development plans in Vietnam, especially in providing solutions for the development of digital infrastructure in Vietnam; promoting national digital transformation and building a digital government.
Clearly stating that Vietnam identifies digital transformation as an objective requirement, a strategic choice, a top priority, and a new growth driver that needs to be pursued proactively, and given Vietnam's young population and strong mathematical capabilities, the Prime Minister requested Ericsson to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam, not only expanding trade but also promoting in-depth, strategic, and long-term cooperation, focusing on research and development, establishing a research and development center in Vietnam, promoting technology transfer; developing digital infrastructure, promoting artificial intelligence, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, and building data centers; cooperating and supporting the development of 5G and 6G technologies, developing satellite internet to replace fiber optic internet; training human resources; sharing experiences and providing policy advice; and supporting Vietnamese corporations and partners in participating in global supply chains.
Emphasizing the importance of time, intelligence, and timely decisiveness for successful implementation, the Prime Minister stated that Vietnam wants to explore outer space, subsurface space, and maritime space to promote innovation, creativity, and integration. Vietnam desires and is ready for long-term strategic cooperation with Ericsson, which can make Vietnam a hub for cooperation and investment, and a testing ground for implementing new ideas, fostering healthy cooperation and competition with other major corporations.
In the spirit of "harmonious benefits, shared risks," listening and understanding together, sharing vision and action, working together, enjoying together, winning together, and developing together, the Prime Minister requested Ericsson to continue discussions with Vietnamese agencies and partner businesses. He also expressed his readiness to continue discussions with Ericsson to promote deeper, broader, stronger, more decisive, and more effective cooperation, implementing specific projects and tasks in the coming time as quickly and efficiently as possible, contributing to elevating Vietnam-Sweden relations to a new level.

The Prime Minister stated that to promote digital transformation, the Vietnamese Government is implementing many breakthrough programs and policies, including proactively and actively improving numerous legal documents to remove obstacles and create a favorable environment for the digital transformation process; investing in and modernizing digital infrastructure, prioritizing the development of digital data, and actively training and developing high-quality human resources for the digital industry.
Strongly agreeing with the Prime Minister's statements, the Chairman of Ericsson affirmed the importance of the Vietnamese market with its great development potential, stating that he has visited Vietnam many times in recent years, and this is his second visit this year. Emphasizing the immense potential of 5G and 6G technologies and their crucial role in the digitalization process, and praising Viettel's successful deployment of the 5G network in a short time, he believes Vietnam is on the right track and will be a leading nation in the digital economy. Along with countries like India, Vietnam can become a leader in the latest technologies.
He stated that Ericsson will continue to cooperate with Vietnam, and in particular, Ericsson is ready to collaborate on developing a research and development center in Vietnam to leverage capabilities to create differentiation, new values, apply new technological solutions, and then export them to other countries.
According to him, Ericsson's decisions are based on its infrastructure and human resources capabilities, and Ericsson chose Vietnam because it recognized the Vietnamese government's commitment to digitalization, the ambition of Vietnamese businesses, and the great potential of Vietnamese engineers. Vietnam is a country of very hardworking and dedicated workers, which is a key factor in the success of research and development, he said. He added that he will discuss specific opportunities with Vietnamese partners and units and hopes to continue receiving support in future cooperation.
