On September 22nd, Mr. Le Van Thiem, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Lam Ha district, confirmed that the unit had coordinated with the functional agencies of Tan Thanh commune to record, verify, and investigate the case of vandalism, specifically the cutting of the trunks of over 300 passion fruit trees belonging to Mr. Vu Dinh Dung (42 years old, Tan Hop village, Tan Thanh commune, Lam Ha district, Lam Dong province).
Speaking to a reporter from Dan Viet newspaper, Mr. Vu Dinh Dung said that on the evening of September 19th, his family's 325 passion fruit plants, which were over six months old and ready for harvest, were cut down by vandals. Notably, this is not the first time his family has suffered crop damage and economic losses.

Thieves cut down the trunks of 325 passion fruit plants belonging to Mr. Dung's family.
“On the evening of September 19th, my wife was still tending to our passion fruit garden. But the next morning, when I went to the garden, I discovered that a series of passion fruit plants had been cut at the base by vandals, making recovery impossible. Our garden is surrounded by B40 mesh fencing, but the vandals cut the mesh in three places to enter and cause damage. These three locations are about 20 meters apart.”
Immediately after discovering the incident, I reported it to the authorities and the commune police so they could come and record the scene and investigate the case. Hundreds of passion fruit plants are the main source of income for my family, but now they have been destroyed by vandals, making our economic situation even more difficult. My family had to borrow money from the policy bank to cultivate them, but now it's considered a complete loss,” Mr. Dung shared.

Mr. Dung added that his family's nearly 5,000 square meter garden had about 450 passion fruit plants, but 325 were cut down. The remaining plants were not clustered together, making care very difficult, resulting in a total loss. "My passion fruit garden was very good, with a high yield. Even though it had only been planted for over 6 months, we had already harvested nearly 10 tons, and at peak times, we could harvest 1.4 tons of fruit a day. Currently, the price of passion fruit is around 20,000 VND/kg, so our losses are enormous," Mr. Dung said.

Mr. Dung's passion fruit garden, planted just over 6 months ago, is already yielding good productivity and output.
Interestingly, a few years ago, when Mr. Dung was still growing mulberry trees and raising silkworms, vandals sprayed chemicals in his mulberry garden, causing an entire batch of silkworms to be discarded.
After receiving the report, the Tan Thanh Commune Police (Lam Ha District) coordinated with relevant authorities to record the scene and work with the affected residents to investigate and clarify the incident.

Mr. Dung pointed out the location where the vandals cut the B40 wire mesh to enter the garden and cause damage.
