The producer of 'Southern Forest Land' has sent a revised version, to be shown from October 16.

On October 16, Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Department of Cinema shared with VTC News the latest information related to the film Southern Forest Land having to be re-evaluated right before its premiere.

Mr. Vi Kien Thanh said: "The Department of Cinema has received the revised version of the film Dat Rung Phuong Nam sent by the film producer. We found that the revised version meets the requirements to avoid causing misunderstandings and associations. From 6 p.m. on October 16, cinemas will show the revised version of Dat Rung Phuong Nam."

The movie "Southern Forest Land" has completed editing the content to avoid misunderstandings and associations.

Previously, under the direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism , the Appraisal Council re-appraised the film Southern Forest Land because the film contained activities and dialogues mentioning "Boxer's Righteousness" and "Heaven and Earth Society". This caused many people to misunderstand and associate it with the movement of the same name led by Chu Hong Dang in China.

To clarify the issue, the Department invited the producer and crew of the film Southern Forest to dialogue and discuss some contents related to the film. During the meeting, the Council affirmed that the film Southern Forest did not violate the Cinema Law.

Mr. Vi Kien Thanh commented: "The film does not promote or praise any group, it only praises the patriotism against foreign invaders of the people of the South during that period, including the Vietnamese, Chinese, Khmer..."

The producer of the movie "Southern Forest Land" decided to start showing it from today, October 16.

However, the producer's representative proactively proposed a film editing plan to avoid misunderstandings and associations. Accordingly, the producer will remove the names and dialogues of "Thien Dia Hoi" and "Nghia Hoa Doan", replacing them with "Nam Hoa Doan" and "Chinh Nghia Hoi".

In addition, the film distributor will also adjust the line "The film is inspired by the novel "Southern Forest Land" by writer Doan Gioi" at the beginning of the film to clarify the change in the timeline in the literary work, following more closely the TV series version.

Originally, the film's producer had scheduled the film's release date to be October 20, 2023, and released early screenings from October 13, 2023. However, due to the positive response from the early screenings, plus the completion of the film's revised version, the producer of the film Southern Forest Land decided to release it early from October 16.
