Gia Binh Airport aims for 5-star standards and to be among the top 10 in the world.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Gia Binh Airport has been approved by the National Assembly with a total investment of nearly 200,000 billion VND, a capacity of 30-50 million passengers per year, aiming for 5-star international standards and serving the APEC 2027 Summit.

On the morning of December 11th, the National Assembly passed a Resolution on the investment policy for the construction project of Gia Binh International Airport, one of the largest aviation infrastructure projects ever undertaken.

Gia Binh is envisioned to become a smart, green, sustainable airport, meeting international standards and serving as a new aviation gateway for Northern Vietnam.

According to the Resolution, Gia Binh Airport will be built in the communes of Gia Binh, Luong Tai, Nhan Thang, and Lam Thao in Bac Ninh province, with technical standards level 4F of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

By 2030, the airport is expected to handle approximately 30 million passengers and 1.6 million tons of cargo annually; this is projected to increase to 50 million passengers and 2.5 million tons of cargo by 2050.

The project aims to achieve 5-star international airport service standards, ranking among the top 10 5-star airports in the world according to Skytrax, and also being among the airports with excellent passenger experience according to the International Airport Council. One of the project's key tasks is to serve major diplomatic events, especially the APEC Summit in 2027.

The total investment capital for the project is approximately VND 196,378 billion, of which the investor's equity must be at least 15% of the total investment. The land requirement is approximately 1,884.93 hectares, including over 922 hectares of land for double-cropping or more rice cultivation. The entire land area will be acquired in one go according to the plan and its land use purpose will be changed in accordance with the law.

The project is divided into two phases. Phase 1, from 2025 to 2030, focuses on completing facilities for the APEC 2027 Summit in Phase 1.1 (2025-2027); Phase 1.2 (2026-2030) completes the remaining works to ensure a capacity of 30 million passengers and 1.6 million tons of cargo per year. Phase 2 (2031-2050) will continue expansion to meet the maximum planned capacity.

The project's operating period is 70 years. The selection of investors will be carried out in accordance with Government Resolution 03/2025/NQ-CP on the specific mechanisms and policies for investment in the construction of Gia Binh International Airport.

The resolution also allows the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province to relocate historical and cultural relics during the compensation, support, and resettlement process if necessary. The relocation must ensure maximum preservation of the relics' value, be carried out openly and transparently, and involve consultation with the people. In case of any difficulties, the Government will provide guidance on how to resolve them.

The government is responsible for directing and implementing the Resolution, ensuring transparency, openness, and effectiveness; and providing full information so that the people understand and agree with the investment policy.

The People's Committee of Bac Ninh province is responsible for ensuring the progress of compensation, resettlement, land allocation, and land leasing according to the plan. The selected investor must comply with the law and the requirements stated in the Resolution.

The agencies of the National Assembly, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the National Assembly delegations of the localities will monitor the implementation process in accordance with regulations.

Given its scale, objectives, and planned timeline, Gia Binh International Airport is expected to become a new growth engine for the northern economic region, while also enhancing national aviation capacity in the long term.
