Diners in Ho Chi Minh City bid farewell to The Lunch Lady owner for the last time

The funeral of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, owner of the famous restaurant The Lunch Lady, is being held in Ho Chi Minh City amid the grief of relatives, neighbors, and diners.

This morning, June 5, the funeral of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, also known to many diners by her famous nickname Lunch Lady, is being held at an apartment building in District 1 (HCMC), not far from her famous restaurant The Lunch Lady.

Neighbors and longtime customers of Mrs. Thanh came to burn incense, say goodbye to her one last time, and offer their deepest condolences to her family.

More than half a month ago, during a business trip to prepare to open a new restaurant in Canada, Ms. Thanh suddenly passed away at Toronto's Pearson International Airport, leaving many diners surprised and heartbroken.

The family said that Ms. Thanh was brought home to Vietnam by relatives late on June 4. After the funeral, her coffin will be cremated in Binh Duong . Ms. Thanh's passing is an irreplaceable loss, according to the family.

"Many regular customers and neighbors came to express their condolences, which touched us. Last night, a Canadian guest came here and waited for a long time. It is those feelings that my family deeply cherish and appreciate!", a member of Ms. Thanh's family shared.

Relatives, diners, and neighbors grieve over the passing of the cheerful, kind-hearted owner.

Ms. T. (50 years old), a regular customer and also a neighbor living near Ms. Thanh's house, said that since hearing the news of the restaurant owner's death, she was shocked beyond words. She was not only Ms. Thanh's friend, but also a regular customer who often came to the restaurant to support her.

"Ut Mot" (the affectionate name neighbors call Mrs. Thanh - PV) has passed away, neighbors and guests are all heartbroken, coming to burn incense to see her off. I hope Ut Mot can rest in peace!", the woman emotionally expressed.

According to information from relatives, after taking care of Mrs. Thanh's funeral, The Lunch Lady restaurant will resume operations on June 11. In the absence of the owner, the restaurant will continue to be maintained by her husband, sisters, and children in the family. The restaurant is the passion that she has built over the past 3 decades.
