How to get pregnant naturally after 3 years of sterilization

VnExpressVnExpress02/06/2023

Ms. Hien came to Tam Anh General Hospital Hanoi to reconstruct her reproductive organs to get pregnant naturally after 3 years of sterilization.

"I hope I will feel the life of the fetus in my womb like other women," Ms. Le Thu Hien (40 years old, Tuyen Quang ) shared the reason when she came to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Center, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi.

At the age of 36, Ms. Hien gave birth to her first son, then underwent sterilization by cutting and tying the fallopian tubes. Both husband and wife wanted to provide the best conditions for their child, so when they got married, they agreed to have only one child. However, an unfortunate incident caused her family to lose their child.

Because of her love for her husband and the hope of regaining her motherhood, Ms. Hien wanted to reconnect her fallopian tubes after 3 years of sterilization. "I spent time researching a lot of documents and visiting many places. Both my husband and I had the same wish and wanted to try every possible opportunity to get pregnant naturally," Ms. Hien said.

Associate Professor Nguyen Duc Hinh - Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Center, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi, was surprised by Ms. Hien's request. Because most cases wishing to have children after sterilization often choose the IVF method. The reconstruction of the fallopian tube to restore motherhood has a lower success rate than the success rate of regenerating the male reproductive organs after sterilization, about 26%.

After assessing the chances of success and considering the results of the paraclinical tests, the doctor ordered surgery for Ms. Hien 3 days later.

Dr. Hinh performed open surgery and microsurgery to reconstruct Ms. Hien's fallopian tubes. The surgery was successful, Ms. Hien was discharged after 3 days, with no post-operative complications.

In early June, Ms. Hien had a follow-up examination. The doctor assessed the level of fallopian tube recanalization and the risk of fibrosis causing difficulty in conceiving. The test results were positive, the two fallopian tubes after recanalization had no abnormalities. Currently, Ms. Hien is capable of natural pregnancy.

To increase the chance of pregnancy, the doctor advised Ms. Hien to take time to rest, keep a comfortable mind, and exercise appropriately. A varied diet rich in nutrients will help the body recover quickly. Patients should be careful to limit the use of stimulant drinks or exposure to cigarette smoke and toxic chemicals.

Female sterilization is a safe method of contraception, with very few complications and suitable for two groups of people: those of reproductive age who have had the desired number of children, and whose children are healthy; and women with dangerous diseases during pregnancy. The opportunity to have children after sterilization in women is difficult and costly. Therefore, when performing this method, women need to consult a doctor.

In cases where women are uncertain about their desire to have children in the future, experts recommend that they use an IUD or contraceptive implant.
