Awarding the Brave Youth Badge to a youth volunteer swept away by flood while helping people

On November 5, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Mr. Dang Dai Bang - Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Youth Union visited, encouraged and awarded the Brave Youth Badge posthumously awarded by the Central Committee of the Youth Union to Mr. Le Ngoc Hon (born 2001, Thai Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province). Mr. Hon died while performing rescue work to help people fight floods.

Mr. Le Ngoc Hon was swept away by floodwaters and went missing while performing a rescue mission in the downstream area of ​​Thanh Son Dam (Thai Thuy Commune) on the afternoon of October 27. His body was found on October 30.

Mr. Le Ngoc Hon joined the military and was discharged in January 2024. He is an excellent young man and is part of the commune's disaster prevention team.

On October 31, the leader of Le Thuy district (Quang Binh) said that the district had directed the People's Committee of Thai Thuy commune to prepare a dossier to propose posthumously conferring the title of martyr on Le Ngoc Hon.

According to statistics from the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Civil Defense of Quang Binh province, the recent flood in the province recorded more than 30,000 households being flooded, all in Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts; more than 9,000 households had to evacuate on the spot; 58 villages and hamlets were isolated by floodwaters.

76 roads were flooded, of which National Highway 1 had 5 flooded spots, the deepest being 60cm. Ho Chi Minh Road through Truong Thuy commune, Le Thuy district was flooded for 800m, the deepest being 80cm.

This is the second largest flood in the past 4 years in Quang Binh, after the flood in October 2020. According to local people, this flood is only about 50 - 63cm from the historical flood peak in 2020, depending on the area.
