Vietnam and Laos continue to support each other in building independent and self-reliant economies.

On the afternoon of September 10, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with General Secretary and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith on the occasion of the Lao General Secretary and President leading a high-ranking delegation of the Lao Party and State on a State visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly congratulated General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith on his State visit to Vietnam, bringing with him the warm comradely and brotherly sentiments of the Lao Party, State and people.

General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his pleasure at the State visit to Vietnam; thanked the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their warm, respectful and thoughtful reception for the Lao high-ranking delegation; congratulated the great and comprehensive achievements that the Vietnamese people have achieved in socio-economic development and international integration in recent years, especially the solid political stability, rapid and sustainable economic growth, with the role and position constantly improving in the international arena; expressed his belief that under the effective leadership of the Government, Vietnam will continue to gain more victories in the cause of national construction and development, successfully implementing the goals set by the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Before the damage caused by storm number 3 caused, General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith sent his sincere condolences to the Vietnamese people, especially the localities and people affected by this natural disaster; at the same time expressed his belief that under the leadership and close attention of the Party and Government of Vietnam from the central to local levels, the Vietnamese people will overcome all difficulties, and the lives of the people and affected areas will soon stabilize and return to normal.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the visit to Vietnam by the Lao General Secretary and President is of great significance, marking a milestone in the history of relations between the two countries, contributing to promoting the great solidarity relationship. Vietnam-Laos increasingly go into depth, practical effectiveness, bring prosperity to the people of each country as well as contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world; congratulate the great achievements that the Lao people have achieved in the cause of protecting and developing the country after nearly 40 years of renovation as well as in implementing the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress and the 9th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025).

The Prime Minister expressed his belief that under the wise leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party led by General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, Laos will successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 9th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh informed about the recent socio-economic development situation of Vietnam and expressed his gratitude for the Lao Party, State and people's sharing and visiting the Vietnamese people in the aftermath of the recent storm No. 3, demonstrating the comradely and brotherly affection and the tradition of mutual love between the two nations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed joy at the bilateral relationship that has been constantly strengthened, becoming increasingly deep and effective.

Political relations continue to be close and trustworthy; cooperation in the fields of defense and security continue to be important pillars; economic-trade-investment, education-training, cultural, scientific-technological relations, and cooperation between localities of the two countries continuously develop.

The two leaders highly agreed on the direction of cooperation in the coming time in various fields, emphasizing the continued close coordination in implementing high-level agreements, the results of the 46th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, the results of the State visit to Laos by President To Lam, as well as cooperation programs between departments, ministries, branches and localities of the two countries; increasing the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels; promoting defense-security cooperation as important pillars of cooperation; effectively promoting economic and trade cooperation, creating more favorable conditions for enterprises of the two countries to invest and do business in each country; continuing to support each other in building an independent and self-reliant economy, while integrating deeply and effectively into the international community; further strengthen the connection between the two economies of Vietnam and Laos and between the three economies of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, especially the connection between institutions, finance, transport infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, and tourism.

The two leaders also agreed to focus on removing obstacles in implementing important projects; continue to pay attention to and promote cooperation in education, culture, tourism, banking, labor and people-to-people exchange.

In the context of complicated developments in the international and regional situation, the two sides agreed to continue to regularly exchange experiences and information, closely coordinate and support each other at international and regional forums, especially at ASEAN, the United Nations and sub-regional mechanisms.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam will continue to coordinate and support Laos to the maximum extent possible so that Laos can successfully assume its international responsibilities in 2024, including the role of ASEAN Chair.
