On the morning of September 11 (Vietnam time, evening of September 10 US time), Democratic candidate, US Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump held their first live debate.

The debate took place at the National Constitution Center (NCC) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The content of the debate revolved around issues that the American people are concerned about such as the economy, immigration, abortion, foreign policy, especially the Russia-Ukraine and Hamas-Israel conflicts.
As she entered the empty debate room, Ms. Harris proactively approached Mr. Trump to shake his hand. This was the first time they met face to face. Immediately after, both sides began taking questions from the moderator.
Internal
The first topic revolved around the economy , with Vice President Harris saying that the Joe Biden administration had to "clean up the mess that Mr. Trump left behind" after four years in the White House with "the worst unemployment rate since the Great Depression," "the worst attack on democracy since the American Civil War" and "the worst public health pandemic in a century."
For his part, Mr. Trump affirmed that he created the best economy for the United States during his term of 2016-2020 and declared that the Republican candidate would make the country's economy better if elected.
Ms. Harris said that all Mr. Trump planned was to cut taxes for the wealthy and emphasized the policy direction of “opportunity economics,” including a plan for child tax credits, housing subsidies and finding ways to prevent price increases.
Responding to the Vice President, Mr. Trump repeatedly said "she has no plan," and defended his plan to impose tariffs on imports from other countries, declaring: "We are imposing tariffs on other countries. Eventually, after 75 years, other countries will have to pay us back."
Vice President Kamala Harris also attacked what she called "Trump's abortion ban" when debating Americans' reproductive rights, while her opponent spent much of her response criticizing Democrats for being too "liberal" in their access to abortion.
During the debate, Ms. Harris accused her Republican opponent of dividing Americans by inflaming racial tensions, saying it would be "tragic" if such a person became president.
The conflicts

Regarding the situation in the Middle East, Ms. Haris affirmed that she would always give Israel the ability to defend itself, "especially when it comes to Iran and any threats that Tehran and its proxy forces pose," but also warned that "too many" innocent Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing conflict.
The war between Israel and Hamas is one of the most politically divisive issues for Democrats. Harris has largely followed President Joe Biden's lead on the issue, trying to balance unwavering support for Israel's security with condemnation of the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
This war must end immediately by reaching a ceasefire agreement and returning hostages, she said, and the US "will continue to work tirelessly on that issue."
The US Vice President also expressed support for a two-state solution in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, while former President Trump dodged questions about this, only repeating his statement that Ms. Harris and the Democratic Party hate Israel, and these conflicts will not happen under his administration.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the former US President continued to reaffirm his statement that he had made many times: "I will end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia if I am elected president, I will finish it before I even take office."
The Republican presidential candidate said he would speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stressing that he could also get both leaders to negotiate and end the conflict.
However, when asked by the debate moderator whether he wanted Kiev to win the conflict with Moscow, Mr. Trump did not answer directly but said: "I think ending this war is in the best interest of the United States."
Also related to conflicts around the world , Vice President Kamala Harris affirmed that the country does not deploy troops in any war zones, despite deploying forces in countries around the world.
The first live debate between Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris was coordinated by ABC News with a duration of about 90 minutes and no live audience.
Under the debate rules, both sides agreed to mute their microphones until it was their turn to speak. The candidates were not allowed to bring props or notes, but a bottle of water, a pen and a pad of paper would be available.
Candidates will not be given a pre-debate topic. Each candidate will have 2 minutes to answer the moderator’s questions, 2 minutes to respond, and 1 minute to answer additional questions if needed. However, the candidates will not be allowed to ask each other questions and will not be allowed to contact their campaign staff during the debate.
Observers say that in this "first match", whichever candidate has the upper hand will be able to create favorable psychological momentum as well as gain a significant advantage in the race to the White House next November.
