(NLĐO) - A shiny streak, suspected to be spilled oil, has appeared on the Prenn Pass road leading from Da Lat City to Lien Khuong, posing a potential danger to road users.

On the evening of February 27th, many residents reported that the Prenn Pass road, heading from Da Lat City down to Lien Khuong District, had many shiny patches of what appeared to be chemicals – possibly oil spilled onto the road surface. This could cause slippery conditions for road users, especially motorcyclists, as the chemical spill is quite large and the curve is quite steep.

A shiny streak, suspected to be spilled oil, was found on the Prenn Pass.

According to observations, these streaks smelled like car engine oil. The chemical trail from the aforementioned bend extended for about 300-400 meters, lying on the road section used by cars heading towards Lien Khuong. Another smaller trail appeared near the intersection of Prenn Pass with the entrance to Tuyen Lam Lake National Tourist Area.

According to some road users, another chemical spill occurred near the end of the Prenn Pass, but in the direction from Lien Khuong to Da Lat.

Trucks carrying sand arrived to clean up the spilled chemicals.

At approximately 9:30 PM that same day, police from Ward 3, Da Lat City, arrived to regulate traffic and remind drivers to slow down to avoid slippery conditions. A small truck carrying sand was then used to fill the chemical spills and sweep them away to absorb the spillage.

Previously, in June 2024, on the Prenn Pass, there were 13 locations where traces of spilled chemicals caused the asphalt concrete road surface to peel off between Km 225+700 and Km 225+950, affecting the quality of the road surface.

Police officers from Ward 3 are directing traffic and reminding people to slow down to avoid slipping when approaching the area where chemicals have been spilled.

At that time, authorities had not recorded or identified any signs of sabotage in this matter. Da Lat City requested relevant units to review and reinforce speed limit signs when entering small curves for large passenger buses and to consider installing surveillance cameras on these curved sections of road.

The police also assisted in cleaning up the chemical spills on Prenn Pass.

The Prenn Pass upgrade and expansion project commenced in February 2023, with a total investment of approximately 553 billion VND. The project is managed by the Lam Dong Provincial Transportation Project Management Board, and the construction is undertaken by Deo Ca Group. The entire route is expected to be open to traffic before the Lunar New Year of 2024.
