After more than four months of resuming operations, the Vietnam-China international passenger train route has recorded positive signals, attracting more than 8,000 passengers. In order to facilitate people, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) has officially launched online ticket sales for this route.

Gia Lam - Nanning international passenger train at Gia Lam station.
Travel demand increased sharply
According to data from VNR , from the date of resumption on May 26 to the end of September 2025, the international passenger train served a total of 8,400 passengers.
Passenger structure shows that travel demand from China is mainly:
- Chinese passengers account for 75%.
- Vietnamese passengers account for 20%.
- Passengers from other countries account for 5%.
This result affirms the important role of this railway line in connecting trade and tourism between the two countries.
Open online ticket sales, expand utilities
To create more favorable conditions for passengers, from October 8, VNR has officially launched online ticket sales for the Gia Lam - Nanning route.
Passengers who want to buy tickets can access the official ticket sales website of Vietnam Railways, dsvn.vn, to book and pay online. After completing, passengers need to bring their passport and receipt to the station to receive the ticket directly before departure.
In addition to online, passengers can still buy tickets directly at ticket offices at stations nationwide.
Negotiating to expand online route
Currently, international train tickets going beyond Nanning station to cities such as Guilin North, Hengyang, Changsha, Zhengzhou, Beijing West, on Tuesdays and Fridays every week, are still only sold directly at the stations.
VNR is actively working with the Chinese railway to soon expand online ticket sales for passengers traveling to stations further than Nanning on the MR1 line, in order to improve the ticket purchasing experience and services for passengers.
Also according to Vietnam Railways Corporation, due to the severe flooding in the provinces on the Hanoi - Dong Dang route, the international train route MR1/MR2 has been temporarily suspended from October 5 to 9. Passengers who have purchased tickets during this time can go to the station to return their tickets and will be fully refunded.
