Modern washing machines not only replace humans in doing laundry but are now also integrated with many new technologies to improve quality as well as reduce the need for user operations. This is also one of the popular electronic and technological devices in every Vietnamese family, just after the refrigerator.

According to a report from market research firm GfK, in 2022, consumers in Vietnam will buy about 1 million horizontal-drum washing machines - products with better design and washing ability than traditional vertical-drum (top-load) washing machines. This number is 3-4 times higher than neighboring markets such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and is the top in Southeast Asia.

Mr. Hoang Thanh Phong, Director of Products in Southeast Asia of Electrolux, assessed Vietnam as the leading potential market in the region for the horizontal drum washing machine product line. "Consumption in 2022 is very high, although it will decrease slightly in 2023 due to the macroeconomic situation, but it will grow again in 2024," Mr. Phong shared at the launch of the clothing care product line (including the new generation UltimateCare washing machine and dryer) in the Vietnamese market on the afternoon of September 30.

According to him, Vietnamese consumers tend to quickly and enthusiastically approach new technologies on consumer devices, not just washing machines. Some examples given are how the market reacts to newly launched high-end phone lines, especially the iPhone, or the consumer preference for high-tech refrigerators with special designs such as Side-by-Side, Multi-door...

Regarding washing machines, Vietnamese users have similar concerns such as choosing the right washing program for each type of fabric and laundry; whether the quality of the wash is consistent or not; washing time... Therefore, manufacturers must find ways to solve the common problems raised by users before focusing on competitive features.

"The ability to balance washing performance, superior technology while still saving time, electricity and protecting the environment are the factors that make the product stand out," the unit leader added. Taking an example from the new product line, Mr. Phong said that technology like FullWash 45 helps users wash a full load of clothes in just 45 minutes, instead of having to "trade off" in the usual way of wanting the washing machine to be fast, having to reduce the amount of clothes to be processed.

In addition, smart technologies such as detergent distribution, dirt sensors, deep scanning to determine moisture in the fabric layer, phone connection via application... or AI to help calculate and optimize the washing cycle are also of interest to many Vietnamese users.
