Promoting the role of "locomotive" and exemplary in border areas

Buon Don border commune is a colorful picture of 15 ethnic groups living together, with 1,793 households and 6,654 people.

Amidst the vast mountains and forests and the challenges of the border area, there are dedicated "locomotives" who are day and night lighting the fire of solidarity, creating change for the village.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, head of Tri village, carefully records information and trading situations for comparison and understanding.

If Tri village is like a boat, then village head Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan is the steady helmsman. Tri village has 351 households with 1,262 people living there.

Ms. Lan has been attached to Dak Lak since 1977, when she came here from Ho Chi Minh City, bringing with her the enthusiasm of youth, volunteering to spread knowledge in the villages. After many years of teaching at Y Jut Primary School, she retired in 2013, but her spirit of dedication did not stop. She continued to participate in social work, holding the position of Chairwoman of the Commune Education Promotion Association, and many other positions in the village such as Party Cell Secretary, Village Chief of Tri village.

Ms. Lan discussed with people about the application of smartphones in daily life.

Her most outstanding mark is her dedication and transparency. Having been attached to the village for decades, she knows by heart the names of every villager, their family circumstances, and the policies that they have enjoyed, thereby creating trust among the people.

I still remember many years ago, when I was mobilizing people to donate land to build a road (the road to Buon Don suspension bridge tourist area, about 2 km long), she closely coordinated with local authorities and investors, organized meetings, and promoted the motto "slow and steady wins the race". Thanks to that perseverance, people living along the road unanimously participated in donating land and removing fences to build a straight and beautiful road, creating momentum for tourism and the economy in the area to develop more and more.

In Yang Lanh village, where 93.2% of the population is ethnic minorities and the rate of poor and near-poor households is over 60%, Mr. Y Von Nie - a prestigious person of the village - has become a shining example in promoting social security work and community solidarity.

With the characteristic of a village with many poor households, the work of propagating and mobilizing people to participate in activities for the poor and charity has always been focused on by Mr. Y Von Nie and the Front Work Committee. Thanks to that, in 2025, Yang Lanh village has exceeded the targets of fundraising campaigns such as "Repaying gratitude" and "Fund for the poor".

To set an example for his fellow countrymen, Mr. Y Von Nie works hard in production and cleans up the environment.

In particular, he and the grassroots political system actively proposed to the superiors to support and build 6 new houses for poor households, each worth 80 million VND. The new houses have provided decent accommodation, helping people settle down and work, thereby focusing on economic development.

Through charitable activities, Mr. Y Von Nie also actively mobilized people to follow the constitution and laws, maintain political security and social order and safety. He and the village have resolved conflicts within the people, creating an atmosphere of solidarity and harmony in the residential area....

The stories of the "locomotives" are not only personal achievements but also clear evidence of the strength of solidarity and dedication to the community in the border commune of Buon Don.

Outstanding individuals like Ms. Lan and Mr. Y Von Nie are the solid bridge between the Party Committee, the government and the people of all ethnic groups in Buon Don. They are not only exemplary pioneers in all movements but also spiritual supports for people to trust and follow. Thanks to their dedication, prestige and understanding of the village, the policies of the Party and the State, especially social security programs and new rural construction, have been implemented quickly and effectively.
