Opening Southeast
Tay Ninh is a border province in the Southeast region, with a particularly important economic and political position, located on the East-West economic corridor, and is the gateway connecting the Southern economic region with the Kingdom of Cambodia and ASEAN countries.
The province has a border of more than 368 km, bordering 3 provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia with 4 international border gates (Moc Bai, Xa Mat, Tan Nam, Binh Hiep), 4 main border gates, 13 secondary border gates, 3 border gate economic zones ( Long An , Moc Bai, Xa Mat).

Implementing the Government's Resolution on approving the policy of upgrading Tan Nam sub-border gate into an international border gate, Tay Ninh province has urgently completed the procedures and on October 25, 2024, started construction of the project on an area of 24 hectares, which has been completed and meets international border gate standards. On the Cambodian side, the project to build Meun Chey international border gate is being implemented on an area of 9 hectares.
In the overall joint efforts of Vietnam and Cambodia to continue promoting economic cooperation and border trade, contributing to the strong development of bilateral relations in the new era, the opening of Tan Nam - Meun Chey international border gate is a step to concretize the development vision agreed upon by the two countries' senior leaders, connecting the two economies of Vietnam and Cambodia, facilitating trade and tourism activities of people and businesses of the two countries.
At the same time, this is an important strategic step to complete the border gate infrastructure system, logistics network, and inter-modal transport between Vietnam and Cambodia; aiming to become a transit point to connect more widely to ASEAN countries in the future through the regional road network.
In addition, the Tan Nam - Meun Chey international border gate will play the role of an important "gateway" for cooperation and exchange, creating new development momentum for Tay Ninh and Prey Veng provinces, as well as neighboring localities; promoting the formation of new cooperation spaces, further connecting the community in the border area; at the same time, contributing to ensuring security and order, more effective border management, meeting the interests and aspirations of the people of the two countries.

Building a bridge of friendship and economy on both sides of the border
Speaking at the opening ceremony in a warm and friendly atmosphere, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Cambodian Prime Minister both emphasized that this is an important event, clearly demonstrating the spirit of trust, solidarity, close and effective cooperation, opening a new door for trade and adding a bridge of friendship between the two nations; at the same time, highly appreciated the efforts of relevant ministries, localities and agencies to cooperate in the process of building and upgrading the border gate.

The Prime Minister said that the inauguration of the Tan Nam - Meun Chey international border gate will create a strong driving force for the two countries to soon complete the demarcation and marker planting for 16% of the unfinished border sections; at the same time, research and further develop other pairs of international border gates on the Vietnam - Cambodia land border, aiming to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD as agreed by the two countries' senior leaders, contributing to the increasingly strong and sustainable development of the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia.
In order for the Tan Nam - Meun Chey Border Gate to operate smoothly and effectively, the Prime Minister requested relevant ministries, branches, agencies and localities of the two countries to continue to coordinate closely, focusing on "5 enhancements" including further strengthening coordination in border management; enhancing simplification of procedures, digitalizing customs clearance, building smart border gates; enhancing infrastructure connectivity and border economic space; enhancing regional connectivity and local cooperation, especially between Tay Ninh province and Prey Veng; enhancing the role of businesses and industry associations of the two countries; further strengthening coordination in border management, ensuring security and order, resolutely fighting against all types of cross-border crimes...

For his part, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also said that the official operation of this pair of international border gates is a clear demonstration of the goodwill, unity in approach and determination to cooperate between Cambodia and Vietnam, joining hands to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
"The official opening of the pair of international border gates today is another historic achievement in the development of relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam in various fields; with the desire to turn the border area into an area of opportunity for the people of our two countries," said Prime Minister Hun Manet.
