Spread the spirit of saving electricity

On the afternoon of December 8, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held the Award Ceremony for the "Electricity Saving Propaganda Contest 2025".

The contest is one of the tasks within the National Program on economical and efficient use of energy for the 2019-2030 period, implemented according to Decision 548/QD-BCT and Decision 231/QD-BCT of the Minister of Industry and Trade.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, Editor-in-Chief of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Standing Organizing Committee of the Contest, said that exactly one year ago, in a group meeting at the National Assembly , General Secretary To Lam spent more than an hour talking about the need to amend the Electricity Law, emphasizing the urgent need to save electricity as well as ensure energy sources for development. In addition, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien also frequently mentioned in many domestic and international forums a very familiar number for those "working in electricity": to ensure GDP growth by 1%, electricity demand must increase by 1.5-1.8%.

With the double-digit growth scenarios set out last year, the electricity industry is under enormous pressure. From last year until now, when we entered the threshold of a new development phase, the growth target was set at least 10%, maybe even 11-12%. That means the demand for electricity must increase from 10% to nearly 20%. Meanwhile, major power sources have had almost no new projects inaugurated in recent times; traditional sources such as hydropower, coal power, and gas power have all entered a critical stage. Therefore, saving electricity and, more importantly, using energy economically and efficiently has become an urgent requirement, not only for people but also for large customer groups ,” Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Van Minh emphasized.

According to the leaders of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, over the years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has always been concerned about this issue. Under the direction of the Ministry's leaders, the Minister and Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long, the Ministry has advised the Party, the State and the Government to issue a series of new policies and mechanisms.

The propaganda work on electricity saving is closely directed by the Ministry's leaders. For the first time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade assigned the Industry and Trade Newspaper to coordinate with the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion (DEC) to organize the 'Electricity Saving Propaganda Contest 2025' ”, said the Editor-in-Chief of Industry and Trade Newspaper.

Joining hands for the goal of efficient energy use

According to Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Van Minh, we determined that this is not just a formal or slogan contest, but more importantly, through creative forms of expression, dramatization, and strong dissemination on print newspapers, electronic newspapers, social networks and digital platforms. The most valuable thing is that the messages must be formed from the people, businesses, and electricity customers themselves, these are the people who understand best what they need and how they can contribute.

After 4 months of implementation, the contest attracted 130 works. The Organizing Committee and the Jury worked through 3 rounds of very strict judging. From 130 works, 90 were selected, then 22 works entered the final round. Although there were only a limited number of awards, we assessed that the works all had profound and meaningful messages, stemming from real life and the voice of the grassroots ”, said the leader of Cong Thuong Newspaper - Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest.

In addition, Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Van Minh said that the Organizing Committee considers this year's contest as the beginning. Starting from 2026, when the whole country enters the new year and implements the Resolution of the 14th National Congress, the issue of energy security raised in Resolution 70-NQ/TW will continue to be thoroughly grasped and strongly implemented. In particular, saving electricity and using energy efficiently is an important pillar.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to resolutely implement new mechanisms such as a two-component electricity price policy and solutions that follow international practices, ensuring fairness, transparency and efficiency, suitable for each group of electricity users, each time frame and each region.

From the success of this year’s competition, the Industry and Trade Newspaper and the Securities Trading Department will continue to organize the following seasons. We look forward to continuing to receive the support of the press agencies present here today, the Electricity industry and the whole society. Let us together spread positive messages to successfully implement Resolution 70, complete policies and solutions to ensure power sources for economic development, promote the use of energy economically and efficiently and towards sustainable growth ”, the Editor-in-Chief of the Industry and Trade Newspaper believes.

The contest “Energy Saving Propaganda 2025” has ended with many meaningful marks, contributing to creating sustainable values for society. Not only is it a creative playground, the contest is also an opportunity for each individual and each collective to demonstrate their responsibility to the community in the context of increasing energy demand and growing challenges of energy security.
