Can Tho Secretary Le Quang Tung: 'We have no intention of moving the city stadium'

Regarding the information about relocating the city's stadium that has caused a stir in public opinion recently, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Le Quang Tung affirmed that "we have no intention of relocating the stadium".

On the afternoon of December 8, the People's Council of Can Tho City opened its regular meeting at the end of 2025. At the meeting, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Le Quang Tung gave a speech orienting a number of contents. In which, Mr. Tung emphasized that in the coming time, the city will strive to build the city into the center of the Mekong Delta in terms of economy and society.

To achieve this goal, Mr. Tung said that the fields of health, social culture, education and training, science and technology as well as other fields must be prioritized for investment, including the need to expand health, education, science and technology facilities in the city, striving to become a regional center for these contents.

Regarding health, it must be the final health care of the region. Regarding education and training, strive to be the center for training high-quality human resources for the region, including university education and vocational education, in addition to strengthening basic education.

Similarly, in terms of social culture, Mr. Tung also believes that the city must take the lead in developing the region's culture.

However, Mr. Tung said, "We need to boldly see that the city has the Tay Do Cultural House, but if delegates passing by see that the city has such a large cultural house, it is also worth thinking about."

Regarding the sports sector, regarding the information about moving the city stadium, Mr. Tung also affirmed: "We have no intention of moving the stadium", but from there he also noted "Our sports facilities are very degraded: stadiums, gymnasiums, sports training centers are all degraded. If we do not focus on these areas, we will lose our role and position as a regional center".

Mr. Tung suggested that the People's Council delegates continue to discuss and debate so that in the upcoming city planning, there will be decisions on areas and projects to focus resources on, demonstrating the role of the regional center of Can Tho city.

Mr. Tung also said that in terms of ward ratio and social security ratio, Can Tho city is still very low compared to the criteria of a centrally-run city.

Therefore, he said that "in the coming time, we must change, adjust, and increase investment even more, especially social security for people in remote, isolated, and disadvantaged areas."
