Special features of the 57mm anti-aircraft gun that Vietnam has improved to counter missiles and UAVs

The 57mm anti-aircraft artillery system with equipment improved and modernized by Viettel is deployed to protect important bases from air attack targets such as fighter planes, bombers, helicopters, paratroopers, missiles, bombs, and UAVs.

At the Ministry of National Defense 's outdoor exhibition booth at the National Achievement Exhibition on the 80th Anniversary of the Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi), one of the notable equipment brought by Viettel to display is a set of equipment that helps automate the operations of 57mm anti-aircraft artillery units.

According to officers at the exhibition area, the 57mm anti-aircraft artillery complex has equipment including: radar, optoelectronics, combat command system, battlefield management system, communication system, power supply and distribution system, and 57mm anti-aircraft artillery batteries.

Anti-aircraft artillery complexes are deployed to protect important bases such as airports, factories, ports and important facilities from air attack targets such as fighters, bombers, helicopters, paratroopers, missiles, bombs, and UAVs.

Many parts on the gun were modernized.

This anti-aircraft artillery complex has many special features such as: the guns are fully automated, from control to firing, loading, no gunner needed; there is radar and optics included to increase target tracking, increase tracking quality; there is a command computer integrated with the ballistic system to help calculate more accurately the ability to hit the target.

In addition, the command computer can calculate for each individual cannon. "Previously, the cannons fired parallel to each other, but now, each cannon has a coordinate but can all converge on a target, increasing the ability to concentrate bullets, thereby increasing the damage to destroy the target," the officer said, adding that, in addition to the automatic features, the previous mechanical firing features are all retained, with 1 gun crew having 5-7 soldiers.

In terms of parameters, the 57mm anti-aircraft artillery system has a close-range target firing range, firing time from when it tracks the target is less than 4 seconds, using 4 firing modes: radar, electro-optical, synthetic, and altitude indication.

Next to the 57mm anti-aircraft artillery complex are six 37mm-2N anti-aircraft artillery companies operating day and night. The artillery company uses 37mm caliber guns, with an effective range of shooting down air targets at a distance of 3,000 m and ground targets at a distance of 4,000 m, with a maximum range of 6,700 m.

The gun's combat mode is semi-automatic, automatic and mechanical. The gun is capable of firing targets with speeds up to 400 m/s, ground targets with speeds up to 20 m/s, firing rate of 80 - 120 rounds/minute, fully automatic combat crew of 2 batteries.

In addition to the guns, the complex is controlled by a control center on the Kamaz43266 vehicle. This control center is responsible for commanding operations, searching and tracking targets, detecting targets through optoelectronics, receiving target parameters from other command equipment - radar, TZK.

The control center is capable of detecting targets at a distance of 30 km, automatic tracking distance of 10 km, the center calculates automatic firing elements, automatically compensates for tilt and corrects non-standard firing conditions.

Of the two types of artillery above, the 57mm anti-aircraft artillery recently participated in the parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2.

According to the explanation, the 57mm anti-aircraft artillery is an indispensable part of the Vietnamese air defense force with many outstanding achievements. In the 1972 Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air campaign, the 57mm artillery, together with other types of firepower, formed an anti-aircraft fire network, shot down B52 bombers, contributing to the great victory in the resistance war against the US to save the country.
