Airlines 'stretching' to serve passengers during peak days near Tet

According to data from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, on February 3, there were 901 flights, including 456 departures and 445 arrivals at this airport, most of which were domestic flights with 616 flights.

Planes line up to fly during peak Tet holiday

It is worth mentioning that during the "tense" days of Tan Son Nhat airport as well as airlines, the weather was not supportive with an unprecedented fog in Hanoi . The scenery in the fog is very romantic when going out in the spring, but for airlines, it is a pressure in business operations and passenger service.

Many flights cannot take off or land at Noi Bai airport because of the fog, which means the entire chain is affected because the flight schedule has changed. Planes landing at other airports to avoid the fog of course cannot turn around on time. Passengers are impatient because of the wait, but according to a representative of an airline, this is an objective factor that no one wants. The airline not only serves passengers who have to wait, but also has to bear additional costs for fuel, parking, etc. "For airlines and the aviation industry, safety is the number one priority, not being on time at all costs" - this person affirmed.

The number of passengers increased many times compared to normal, airlines increased flights to serve passengers, but the infrastructure and services at the airport could not meet the increase, leading to slow service. Even though the ground service staff tried their best, it was understandable that they could not handle the situation as quickly as usual.

Meanwhile, airlines have increased flights to bring people home for Tet, so planes have to line up for takeoff. In the air, planes are also waiting for their turn to land. Each step is delayed by a few dozen minutes, inevitably delaying flights and the assembly line, affecting flight schedules.

An airline representative shared that if airlines do not increase flights, they will not be able to meet people's travel needs during Tet. However, increasing flights will inevitably lead to delays due to overload. "Delayed but arriving safely, reuniting with loved ones during Tet is more cozy than having to celebrate Tet away from home" - this person said.

Therefore, most airlines as well as port operators recommend that passengers do not arrive at the airport too early, but plan to arrive at the airport about 1-3 hours before departure time, depending on the airport situation. At the same time, increase online check-in in advance to avoid "accidentally" contributing to increased crowding at the airport," he said.

"Look at the inner-city roads of big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the traffic is crowded and seriously congested. That is because the number of people participating in traffic has increased abnormally. Look at the tens of thousands of vehicles stuck on highways and national roads, and you will see that this is the traffic rule during Tet or holidays. Although everyone is proactive when driving a private car, they cannot be fast. All calculations of the journey's time are completely disrupted, and traveling by road takes twice as long, which is also acceptable. Whether traveling by road or by air at this time, be ready for sympathy and sharing because the number of people and vehicles has increased. Safety is always the top priority of airlines, and for passengers, the most important thing is to arrive safely" - a representative of an airline commented.
