On June 23, Ha Dong District Police ( Hanoi ) said that the unit had coordinated with the professional departments of the City Police to arrest Thai Van Quang (24 years old, living in Tan Trieu commune, Thanh Tri, Hanoi) to investigate the case of 9 cars with broken windows in Van Quan urban area.

Previously, at around 7:00 a.m. on June 17, Ha Dong District Police received a report from residents that on the night of June 16 and early morning of June 17, many cars parked overnight on the sidewalk in front of CT8A and CT8B apartments in Van Quan urban area, Van Quan ward, had their windows broken by thieves.

According to the reporter's records at the area where the windows of 9 cars were broken while they were left overnight (sidewalk in front of CT8A and CT8B apartment buildings in Van Quan urban area, Ha Dong district), by 4:30 p.m. on June 17, only 1 car remained that had not been taken for repair. In addition, there were many cars parked neatly in the apartment complex.

Some residents said that the cars with broken windows were parked in the apartment complex but were not being watched. Thieves took advantage of the darkness and heavy rain to break the car windows and steal the belongings inside.

Mr. NTV (45 years old, resident of CT8B apartment building) said that residents have been parking and leaving their cars overnight in the above areas for a long time. However, this is the first time that car windows have been broken to steal property.

According to Mr. V, this area has coffee shops and food services that operate late, so thieves do not dare to steal or destroy property like that.

“I suspect that on the night of June 16, there was heavy rain and strong winds, so restaurants were closed to avoid the rain and wind, so thieves took advantage of the situation to smash car windows to steal.

In the morning, seeing the vandalized vehicles, the local people were extremely saddened and angry with the vandals," said Mr. V.

Ms. NPY (34 years old; administrator)   reason CT8B apartment building) said: "Immediately after discovering the incident, the owners of the vandalized cars reported it to the police.

Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene to verify and record the details. Afterwards, the vehicle owners took the vehicle for repair.

According to Ms. Y, thieves broke the windows of many cars but almost nothing was stolen because the car owners did not leave valuables in the car.

"There were 6 cars in CT8B apartment complex, 2 cars in CT8A apartment complex, and on 19/5 street in Van Quan urban area, there was 1 car with its window broken," said Ms. Y.

Ms. Y. informed that the police extracted the security camera of apartment building CT8B, thereby discovering the thief smashing the car window right when it was raining heavily.

Wear a raincoat and a hat to break car windows to steal property

At noon on June 23, a representative of the Ha Dong District Police said that at around 7:00 a.m. on June 17, the unit received a report from residents that on the night of June 16 and early morning of June 17, many cars were parked overnight on the sidewalk in front of the CT8A and CT8B apartments in Van Quan urban area, Van Quan ward, and had their windows broken by thieves.

“The traces at the scene led us to two hypotheses: either due to a conflict over car parking, the bad guys destroyed the property to “threaten” the vehicle owner. Second, the bad guys broke the car window to steal property. However, after carefully assessing the situation, we are leaning towards the second hypothesis,” said a representative of the Ha Dong District Police.

By professional measures, on June 21, the suspect who broke the windows of 9 cars was revealed and was immediately taken to the Ha Dong District Police headquarters for investigation.

At the police station, Quang confessed that he went stealing because he was short of money, and immediately thought of his "prey" as cars parked overnight in unattended residential areas.

Specifically, at around midnight on June 17, Quang went to the Nguyen Khuyen street turning into Van Quan urban area. At this time, the thief was wearing a raincoat and a hat to avoid being recognized. Arriving at the CT8 apartment building yard, Quang discovered two unattended cars.

After that, he broke the window of one car but couldn't take anything. He turned to the second car and continued to smash and search it, then the car's alarm system was activated.

Frightened, Quang fled the scene. However, he did not stop there, he continued to move to the cultural house behind Ha Dong stadium in Nguyen Trai ward. There, Quang broke the windows of 2 cars but did not take anything.

After that, Quang returned to Van Quan ward, followed 19/5 street, passed the soccer field, discovered and broke the window of a red car, took a wireless headset, 3 bills worth 2 USD. Arriving at CT8 apartment building - the initial crime scene, Quang continued to break the windows of 6 more cars to steal property.
