Education Technology Market: The Popular Segment Is Approaching Saturation

DNVN - The popular segment accounts for more than 50% of the total number of educational technology products in the Vietnamese market and is approaching saturation. Meanwhile, the room for development of higher education and vocational training for EdTech businesses in the coming time is still very large.

The information was shared by Ms. Nguyen Hong Hanh - Founder & CEO of EdTech Agency at the announcement ceremony of the Vietnam Education Technology White Book 2025 (Edtech Vietnam 2025) and the ranking of typical EdTech products on the morning of August 16 in Hanoi. This is an important publication, providing a panoramic picture of the digital education market, supporting schools, businesses and investors in planning development strategies.

According to the White Paper, the global EdTech market size is expected to increase from $155.42 billion in 2024 to $598.82 billion in 2032. In particular, AI technology continues to be the dominant trend, along with AR/VR, Robotics and Blockchain.

Vietnam continues to affirm its position as one of the most dynamic EdTech markets, ranked in the Top 10 fastest growing countries in the world and Top 3 in Southeast Asia, after Singapore and Indonesia.

The Vietnamese EdTech market is experiencing unbalanced development between segments.

EdTech Agency founder said that Vietnam currently has about 750 EdTech companies, accounting for 20% of the total number of businesses in the region.

"Actually, this number is not much different from the 2024 White Book. There are some new businesses emerging, but many businesses have also withdrawn from the market or sold to other businesses," Ms. Hanh shared.

The report points out a remarkable fact: the Vietnamese EdTech market is experiencing serious imbalanced development. Of the nearly 1,000 products surveyed, the general education and foreign language segments are overwhelmingly dominant. Specifically, there are 553 products for general education (accounting for more than 50%) and 276 products for foreign languages (accounting for 25%). Meanwhile, products for preschool, college and university education are very modest.

"Currently, families and schools are investing a lot of money in exam preparation activities for students. Therefore, the popular segment accounts for more than 50% of the total number of educational technology products on the Vietnamese market and can be said to be approaching saturation," Ms. Hanh analyzed.

She also pointed out that Vietnam's "golden population" will enter a period of decline in the next 10 years, causing this already crowded segment to soon reach its growth limit.

"General and foreign languages are two segments that businesses need to consider carefully before developing new products, because continuing to focus on these markets can lead to 'stepping on each other's toes' and saturation," Ms. Hanh recommended.

While traditional sectors are becoming crowded, the White Paper has pointed out potential "lands" for EdTech businesses to explore.

"A segment with a lot of room is professional training, especially in the fields of science and technology. I hope businesses and educators will have new product development directions to exploit these potential markets," said the Founder & CEO of EdTech Agency.

In addition, higher education is also very potential. This year, the report recorded 30 specialized products for college and university training. However, this number is still very modest compared to the market size of nearly 1.8 million students. Moreover, with the rate of workers with college and university degrees accounting for only 10-12% of the population, much lower than in developed countries, the room for this segment is very large.

Regarding technology trends, the White Paper points out that AI continues to be a key driver and has made great strides with the widespread use of technologies such as

ChatGPT and AI Personalized Learning Platforms. Many startups integrate AI into personalized learning systems, using facial recognition technology to assess concentration levels. This is a mainstream trend that enhances the learner experience and optimizes training efficiency.

VR/AR/XR, IoT are still mentioned as potential technologies, however, new information about specific applications in the period from July 2024 to June 2025 is unclear from official sources.

The education management software system and data connection between levels of education have been strongly developed. Accordingly, it not only supports school management activities but also improves learning experiences and promotes innovation in Vietnamese education.

Within the framework of the event announcing the Vietnam EdTech White Book 2025, there was also the 2025 educational technology exhibition EDTECH EXPO 2025 with the theme "Unlimited learning - discovering the power of Edtech" organized by Edtech Agency, Faculty of Science and Educational Technology (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), Faculty of Information Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).

EdTech Expo 2025 brings together nearly 40 businesses, organizations and educational institutions to participate in the exhibition with hundreds of diverse platform products and solutions, including: technology infrastructure, online learning platforms, digital learning materials serving all levels of education from preschool, high school to university and working people; foreign language support tools, STEM education solutions...

Mr. To Hong Nam - Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Information (Ministry of Education and Training) assessed that EdTech Expo is very meaningful when it connects three parties, including businesses, schools and managers. The event helps bring technology to schools. In the opposite direction, businesses and units providing EdTech products have the opportunity to listen and improve their products, meeting the needs and requirements of reality.
