The workshop is one of the thematic activities within the framework of the Vietwater 2025 International Exhibition, taking place at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC). The event attracted the participation of representatives of state management agencies, research institutes, enterprises and international organizations in the field of water resources, irrigation and disaster response.
Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Nga, Head of the International Cooperation Department, Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, emphasized: “Vietnam is a country heavily affected by natural disasters, with more than 70% of the population regularly affected by storms, floods, droughts and saltwater intrusion. Therefore, innovation, science and technology and international cooperation are key factors in the process of transitioning from passive disaster response to proactive disaster risk prevention and management. The workshop is an opportunity for all parties to share experiences, share solutions and introduce advanced technologies in disaster risk management. Innovative initiatives and the application of science and technology will contribute significantly to improving Vietnam's adaptive capacity to the increasingly greater challenges caused by natural disasters and climate change.”
On behalf of the Netherlands, Mr. Sander Capaij, Deltas Programme Coordinator, Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management of the Netherlands, shared: “The Dutch Government always focuses on promoting cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of flood management and climate change adaptation. In recent times, the two countries have implemented many effective projects in many areas across the country. We look forward to continuing to closely coordinate with the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control, as well as relevant agencies of Vietnam in the future.”
At the workshop, delegates listened to many important presentations, including: "Application of science and technology in disaster prevention and control and priority orientations of Vietnam"; "Flood risk management - from global experience to solutions for Vietnam" presented by a representative of Haskoning Company; and an introduction to the smart disaster warning platform, combining open source software Telemac with artificial intelligence (AI) in flood simulation in the Mekong Delta region and an early warning system adapting to climate change...

In parallel with the workshop program, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control also coordinated with domestic and foreign enterprises to organize a specialized exhibition booth at the Vietwater 2025 Exhibition, introducing advanced products, technologies and solutions in flood management, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
