OCOP products carry cultural values
Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo weaving village has long been a symbol of ingenuity and sophistication in each handmade product. Amidst the modern pace of life, the diligent hands of craftsmen still preserve and develop the traditional craft that has existed for hundreds of years. Thanks to its durability and high aesthetic value, Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo weaving products are not only popular domestically but also exported to Japan, Korea, the US, France, Germany... with a value of billions of VND each year.
According to the owner of Phuc Quang rattan and bamboo weaving facility Hoang Thi Huong, Phu Vinh currently has hundreds of households engaged in the craft, with diverse products ranging from household items (baskets, trays, boxes, vases) to interior decorations and high-end souvenirs. All are 100% handmade and require meticulousness and creativity of the craftsman.
A Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo product is born through many elaborate stages. After weaving, the product is dried, washed, dipped in a special safe glue, and then dried again. This glue layer not only protects the product from mold but also increases its durability, allowing the product to be used for decades if properly preserved.
According to Ms. Hoang Thi Huong, her family and other businesses in the village have also applied e-commerce, introducing products through social networks such as Facebook, TikTok, Zalo to help traditional crafts reach more and more customers without being limited by geographical distance.
To spread and expand the brand value of her family's rattan and bamboo products, Ms. Hoang Thi Huong participated in the OCOP product evaluation process of Hanoi City. By last June, the facility had three products (2 round rattan trays and a rectangular tray) certified with 3-star OCOP. This is proof of the quality and reputation of the products, while enhancing the brand of Phu Vinh craft village in the market.
Chairman of Phu Vinh Bamboo and Rattan Business Association, Meritorious Artisan Nguyen Van Trung also confided: When he first started, he encountered many difficulties. The technique of weaving paintings is very complicated, requiring perseverance and constant creativity. But with passion and the will to overcome difficulties, he gradually conquered it. It is his passion and dedication that helped him have the "silk hands" he has today, creating works that make viewers admire.
Currently, his family has 23 OCOP certified products. Craftsmen cannot only make products that are "beautiful in their own eyes", but also carefully survey market demand and cooperate with distributors. Currently, Phu Vinh bamboo and rattan products are available at the Hanoi OCOP store system, some e-commerce platforms and exported to many countries around the world . In recent times, the capital's bamboo and rattan craft village, businesses and production facilities have constantly improved designs and applied environmentally friendly coating technology to suit the tastes of modern consumers.
Vice Chairwoman of Phu Nghia Commune People's Committee Tran Thi Thu Hang shared: "Regarding the care and development of craft villages, Phu Nghia Commune leaders always pay special attention, creating favorable conditions in terms of infrastructure as well as necessary factors for artisans to preserve and pass on their craft to the next generation. At the same time, the commune also supports the development of OCOP products, contributing to affirming the brand, promoting products on social networking platforms and information pages and expanding the market to the world.

Traditional handicraft products with strengths will be supported.
According to Ngo Van Ngon, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Hanoi New Rural Development Program Coordination Office, Hanoi is a locality with special advantages in developing agriculture and craft villages. Currently, the city has more than 1,350 craft villages, accounting for 40% of the total number of craft villages in the country. In order to preserve and develop traditional craft villages, Hanoi will mobilize maximum social resources and state support to promote digital transformation, improve production efficiency and consumption of handicraft products.
To date, the city has 3,463 OCOP products rated from 3 to 5 stars. OCOP entities are increasingly paying more attention to the market: Investing in machinery, standardizing production processes; building geographical indications, registering trademarks; designing packaging suitable for modern consumer needs. In addition, after being certified as OCOP products, entities are supported by the city and locality to design packaging, labels, and support OCOP stamps with QR codes. Thanks to that, Hanoi's OCOP products have become familiar brands, winning over domestic consumers. Some 4 and 5-star OCOP products are also exported to many countries around the world.
Recently, the City People's Committee issued Decision No. 282/QD-UBND, officially approving the Master Plan for Craft Village Development in the area for the period 2025 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. The plan aims to preserve traditional cultural values, while expanding and developing new occupations that are suitable to market needs. Accordingly, Hanoi will review and classify craft villages to determine plans to maintain, preserve or convert occupations. In addition, traditional handicraft products with strengths will be supported to increase commercial value, closely combining craft village development with tourism, cultural and festival activities to promote production and shift the economic structure in rural areas.
In particular, the city focuses on supporting the digitalization of 300 craft village products, creating conditions for OCOP-certified products to have the opportunity to access the online market. It is expected that more than 50% of craft villages will have OCOP-certified products, at least 30% of craft villages will have products protected by intellectual property...
