Land resources in Bu Dang commune, Dong Nai province. |
Economically exploiting and effectively using this "treasure" is the foundation for the province to develop greenly and sustainably, realizing the goal of achieving the basic criteria of a centrally-run city by 2030.
Rich and diverse resources
With a natural area of over 12.7 thousand km², ranking first in the Southeast region and ninth in the country, land is considered the most important natural resource of Dong Nai. Possessing a large land fund is the basis for the province to plan and rearrange the space for urban and rural development; industry, agriculture - forestry and trade - services.
The combination of land resources with the central location of the Southern key economic region, located on the trade axis between the Southeast, South Central, Central Highlands and Mekong Delta is the basis for the province to become a strategic base for modern industrial, logistics and tourism development. In addition, the resonance from the invested transport infrastructure projects, notably Long Thanh International Airport, Phuoc An Port, Hoa Lu International Border Gate and inter-regional highways is an advantage in forming a regional development coordination center, creating strong growth momentum for the coming period.
With more than 1 million hectares of agricultural land, the province not only has the potential to develop long-term industrial crops and high-tech agriculture, but also has the conditions to form raw material areas for the processing industry. According to the province's orientation, the agricultural sector is promoting mechanization, increasing value and forming a production chain linked to sustainable raw material areas.
Construction stone, sand, filling materials, bauxite... are also important resources to serve key projects not only in the province but also in the Southern region. Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang said: Minerals are one of the important resources of the province. In recent times, the licensing and exploitation have always been strictly controlled by the province, in compliance with planning and regulations on environmental protection and climate change response. Along with that, the Provincial People's Committee has directed to tighten management and planning of resource reserve areas for the future.
In addition to the resources directly serving socio-economic development, Dong Nai forests are considered the "green lungs" of the Southeast region with large forest areas, including natural forests, special-use forests and protective forests. Areas such as Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve, Cat Tien National Park, Bu Gia Map National Park have special value in biodiversity, conservation of rare genes; at the same time, they are important carbon absorption areas, contributing to ecological balance and green economic development.
In the context of climate change and resource depletion, clean, renewable energy is becoming a strategic direction and priority area of the province. Among the types of renewable energy, solar power is the field in which Dong Nai has the most advantage. Accordingly, the province has an average of 2.4 thousand hours of sunshine per year, with a radiation intensity of 1.7-1.9 thousand kWh/m²/year. This is an ideal condition for developing rooftop solar power, especially in industrial parks.
Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Pham Van Cuong said: In the adjusted Power Plan VIII, by 2030, the province will be allocated nearly 3,700 MW of solar power. With more than 80 industrial parks in the planning and thousands of businesses in operation, the potential for developing green and clean energy in the province is huge. This field is consistent with the orientation of fair transition, clean energy development, and emission reduction as determined by the Party, the State, and the Resolution of the 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030.
In addition, the diverse terrain from forests, mountains to plains, urban areas; from lakes, ponds, to having the longest inland river in the country flowing into the sea creates a rich tourism ecosystem. Areas such as Cat Tien, Tri An, Mo stream, Chua Chan mountain, Chien Khu D, Ta Thiet, Ba Ra mountain... are special highlights to develop a green tourism chain associated with history and culture. In recent times, the province has had a policy of developing tourism into an important economic sector, aiming for professionalism, modernity and sustainability; developing international resort and conference centers in the Long Thanh International Airport area; at the same time applying digital transformation, building a smart tourism ecosystem, linking regional development.
Promoting resource advantages to build a green and prosperous Dong Nai
Natural resources are the foundation of socio-economic development, providing raw materials and energy for production. At the same time, they create livelihoods for people and ensure ecological balance, the goal of sustainable growth. For Dong Nai, the economical exploitation and effective use of natural resources is a consistent idea in the province's planning and socio-economic development policies. This is more clearly affirmed in the Resolution of the 1st Dong Nai Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030.
Accordingly, the resolution identifies two key driving forces of the province in the coming period. One is industrial development with a focus on attracting strategic and new-generation investors; prioritizing high-tech industry, green industry and supporting industry. The other is service development with the core being the Long Thanh International Airport Integrated Service Urban Area, the new growth center of the region. These driving forces are determined based on the advantages of resources, transport infrastructure, and available socio-economic conditions.
After merging with Binh Phuoc province, Dong Nai is the locality with the 9th largest land area in the country. In addition to the most valuable asset which is land, the province also has rich mineral resources, abundant surface water and groundwater, large forest areas with high biodiversity, and potential for developing green and clean energy.
In the field of natural resources and environment, the resolution requires strengthening the management and economical and effective use of land, mineral and water resources. Strictly implementing policies and laws; promptly handling violations in resource exploitation and environmental protection. At the same time, developing sustainable forests in association with reducing carbon emissions; investing in automatic environmental monitoring systems, improving forecasting capacity, risk management and response to climate change.
According to Provincial Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Tuan Anh, in the 2025-2030 period, the sector will focus on five key groups of solutions: developing ecological, circular, high-tech agriculture; replicating organic agriculture models; modernizing the multi-purpose agricultural and irrigation service system; perfecting the environmental resource database and solutions for training high-quality human resources, meeting the requirements of green development, moving towards net zero.
Comrade Vo Tan Duc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, said: Dong Nai has all the advantages of resources of the Southeast region. The rational and effective use of resources is the solution to both rapid development and sustainability. In the Provincial Planning, industrial, agricultural, urban, service and transport projects must all be associated with the goals of green growth, environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
At the closing session of the 1st Congress of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, Comrade Vu Hong Van, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation also emphasized: Dong Nai is currently a land with a lot of potential and room for development. Therefore, the entire Party Committee, government and people need to promote the combined strength, mobilize and effectively use all resources, take advantage of the golden opportunity to make a breakthrough, build a green, prosperous, civilized and modern province; strive to achieve the basic criteria of a centrally-run city by 2030.
Land, minerals, water and energy resources are valuable capital, playing a fundamental role in the socio-economic development of the locality. When this foundation is combined with a strategic vision, strict management orientation, reasonable exploitation and economical and effective use, it will certainly create a strong driving force to promote sustainable growth, improve people's lives and ensure harmony between economic growth and environmental protection. This is also the goal that the province is gradually realizing, towards green and sustainable development, worthy of being the dynamic growth pole of the Southern key economic region.
