According to the Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority, maritime transport activities in Ho Chi Minh City continue to record impressive growth, affirming its role as the leading logistics center in the country and moving closer to the goal of entering the top 10 largest container ports in the world .
The total number of ships and inland waterway vehicles passing through regional ports in the first nine months reached more than 173,000, up 10.59% over the same period. Of which, domestic ships reached more than 156,000, and foreign ships reached more than 17,000.
The overall growth rate of nearly 11% is a positive signal, reflecting the recovery and steady development of logistics, import-export activities and seaport support services. Ho Chi Minh City continues to maintain its position as an important trading hub, ensuring a smooth supply chain of goods domestically and internationally.

A notable highlight is the record growth of container cargo. The volume of containers throughput reached more than 16 million TEUs, equivalent to nearly 152 million tons of goods - the highest level ever. This result shows that the demand for transporting import and export goods by container is increasing strongly, at the same time affirming the effective exploitation capacity of the Ho Chi Minh City port system in the context of increasingly fierce regional competition.
At the same time, the total volume of goods transported by sea reached nearly 185 million tons, up 7.28%; inland waterway vehicles reached nearly 75 million tons, up 12.21% over the same period. Total budget revenue from seaport activities in the first 9 months reached more than 2,000 billion VND, making an important contribution to the local budget.
With these outstanding results, the Ho Chi Minh City port system is affirming its strong resilience, becoming a strategic fulcrum of the Southern key economic region. Experts say that with the current growth rate and the development orientation of Can Gio international transit port, Ho Chi Minh City has every basis to reach the Top 10 largest container ports in the world in the coming years.
